The restoration of the monument on Victory Square is scheduled to be completed by April 2020, Natalia Khvir, head of the Department for the Protection of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“Work is currently being carried out quite actively at the Victory Monument. I think they will be completed by April 2020. In any case, this is the task,” said Natalya Khvir.

The general customer of the facility is the GPO Gorremavtodor of the Minsk City Executive Committee. “This is a landmark object not only for Minsk, but also for the whole country. Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, together with Gorremavtodor, clarifies the project documentation, develops a project for reconstruction and restoration. Belrestration is very actively involved in these works. I think that we are the results of this work we’ll see it at the beginning of April, ”the head of the department noted.

The Victory Monument was erected in the center of the square in 1954. The obelisk lined with gray granite is about 40 m high. The four faces of the obelisk pedestal are decorated with bronze high reliefs created by Belarusian sculptors. The obelisk crowns the image of the Order of Victory. On July 3, 1961, the Eternal Flame was lit at the base of the obelisk. Underground, the monument is surrounded by a roundabout gallery, turning into a round memorial hall. In the center, an illuminated glass of art glass is a symbol of the Eternal Flame of Memory.
