Belarus, Russia to intensify information security efforts

Belarus and Russia are set to step up joint efforts to enhance information security, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Oleg Khramov told reporters prior to Belarus-Russia inter-ministerial consultations on international information security, BelTA has learned.

“Everyone understands that today information security is essential for every nation, every state and humankind in general,” Oleg Khramov said. This matter has long been high on the agenda of the governments of Belarus and Russia. The two countries enacted an intergovernmental agreement on maintaining information security.

“We have gathered here today to give a fresh impetus to this work. The ultimate goal of our efforts is to make sure our people live in peace,” Oleg Khramov said.

He emphasized that information security is discussed increasingly often at the international level. “A corresponding decision was passed within the framework of the CSTO; two resolutions were adopted at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Russia and with direct support of Belarus. These international legal acts are designed to finalize the process of international regulation of cyberspace and the role of national governments. One of the resolutions deals with crime prevention and combat in this field,” he said.

In his words, another important point on the agenda today is Belarus' decision to pass the information security concept. The participants of the meeting will discuss ways to maintain information security within the framework of the Union State.
