Reconciliation of Belarusian, Russian views on integration described as difficult process

Reconciliation of Belarusian, Russian views on integration described as difficult process

The governments and ministries of Belarus and Russia are working on integration documents in order to present results of the work to the heads of state in November, however, it is not so easy to reconcile the views. Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas made the relevant statement as he met with Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation Aleksei Kudrin on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Rumas said: “The work is complicated because unfortunately the two economies have been developing along different tracks in this period and it turns out it is not so easy to reconcile the views today. There are sensitive issues for the Belarusian economy that we would like to address in this integration track. There are issues that the Russian side prioritizes. Sometimes they do not coincide [with Belarusian views]. This is why the ministries and governments are hard at work now in order to finally present what we've managed to achieve before the heads of state in November.”

Sergei Rumas said: “We are now working very hard on the action program [on fulfilling the Union State treaty]. We would like to infuse our treaty on the Union State of Belarus and Russia with new powers and advance integration along virtually all economic avenues.” He reminded that the ministries are finalizing 31 roadmaps now. The documents cover virtually all branches of the economy.

Aleksei Kudrin agreed it is necessary to breathe a new life, new strength into the work of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and into union relations. “Respectively we are also ready to present our views on [reaching] these goals. As a result of this analysis we would like to not only unearth some difficulties and risks but make some proposals,” he added.
