Belarus prime minister: Higher salaries only in exchange for more productive work

Belarus prime minister: Higher salaries only in exchange for more productive work

The growth of salaries should be driven only by growing labor productivity. Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas actualized the instructions as he visited woodworking enterprises in the city of Rechitsa, Gomel Oblast on 31 October, BelTA has learned.

The head of government was informed about the implementation of two investment projects in the district capital. One of them provides for reconstructing manufacturing facilities, introducing energy-saving measures, starting the production of medium-density fiberboards (MDF) and high-density fiberboards (HDF) in OAO Gomeldrev. The other project provides for modernizing the production of wood chipboards in OAO Rechitsadrev.

During the tour of Gomeldrev's MDF factory it was noted that the business is gaining momentum. The products are shipped mostly to Poland and Ukraine. Work is in progress to penetrate other markets. The manufacturing of new types of fiberboard is being explored.

In January-September 2019 the enterprise operated at 107% of the designed output capacity, peaking at 114-115% in some months. Earnings exceeded Br81 million. At the same time the growth of salaries outstripped the growth of labor productivity. This is why the prime minister pointed out it is necessary to balance the growth of salaries with that of labor productivity.

Sergei Rumas also raised the matter of cost reduction. It was noted that over the course of two years the enterprise embraced several technical complexes, which allowed saving €400,000 in 2019 alone. For instance, the enterprise optimized standards relating to the consumption of raw materials, glue, heating energy, electricity, and other components.

As for retooling the production of wood chipboards in Rechitsadrev Company, the relevant shop reached the designed output capacity in August. The merchandise sells well, including abroad. The share of export in the total output exceeded 81% in January-September 2019.

The conversation about investment projects also touched upon merchandise brands, prime costs, purchasing prices for materials, the availability of raw veneers in 2020, and other things.

The matter of retooling the Dobrush-based paper mill Geroy Truda (a branch of the holding company Beloboi) was discussed when Sergei Rumas visited the town of Dobrush. The organization of production of coated and uncoated paperboard was also mentioned.

As part of the working trip the prime minister is also expected to visit Petrikov where he will be made familiar with the implementation of an investment project envisaging the development of the Petrikovskoye potash salt deposits and the construction and commissioning of a mining and processing factory able to produce at least 1.5 million tonnes of potassium chloride per annum.
